D1 Minibus Driver Training

HMT – Hertfordshire Minibus Training – Est 1986

If you are looking to take and complete your D1 minibus driving test, we have highly experienced approved driving instructors who will put you at ease and guide you through the entire process.

Drivers who currently hold the D1 entitlement

Your school or organisation may require you to have minibus training and assessment, HMT offer Hertfordshire County council assessments and our own minibus driver assessments. We also offer training to lift the 101 restriction. Please contact us for further details.

Drivers who passed a car driving test on or after 1st January 1997

If you passed your Category B car driving test on or after 1st January 1997 you will not have the category D1 on your licence, therefore to drive a minibus you will have to take and pass the DVSA D1 minibus driving test.

HMT offers 2 or 3 day training courses with the DVSA test at the end of the last day. All our training is on a one to one basis; however, we do also offer training for larger groups. We try to bring the cost down as much as possible so are happy to use your own vehicle (if this meets strict DVSA rules) and will gladly supply additional equipment if needed.

3 Days (6 Hours a day –  1 on 1 instruction) 

  • Use of our Training Minibus
  • 18 Hours One on one instruction
  • DVSA Cat D1 test taken end of Third day
  • Total cost – £1080 – excluding £115 test fee ( £1195 including test fee )

2 Days (6 Hours a day –  1 on 1 instruction) 

  • Use of our Training Minibus
  • 12 Hours One on one instruction
  • DVSA Cat D1 test taken end of Third day
  • Total cost – £720 – excluding £115 test fee ( £835 including test fee )

(Discount of £160 if using your own minibus, please see requirements below – total cost £675)

Retest

  • Recap lesson followed with re test (6 hours)
  • Total cost – £360 – excluding £115 test fee ( £475 including test fee )

Additional Costs

  • Medical examination £ 50 to £100 depending on your Doctors charge
  • Theory test: £26
  • Hazard perception test: £11

 D1+E Minibus and Trailer Training

We also offer D1+E training once you have passed your D1 test to enable you to tow a trailer with your minibus.

Requirements for Minibus used on test

  • Must have a maximum authorised mass of at least 4 tonnes (aka must be a 17 seater ford transit or Mercedes Sprinter)
  • Have between 9 and 16 passenger seats
  • At least 5 metres in length
  • 2 sets of externally mounted nearside and offside mirrors – one for the driver and one for the examiner ( HSM can supply these)
  • A tachograph
  • Anti-lock braking (ABS)
